Saw the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou today with my parents. I had waited about 6 months to see the movie, I really like and wait for the Wes Anderson films. It was a cool movie, but probably my least favorite of his films. I chalk it up to the fact that Owen Wilson didn't cowrite the script, as he had for the other Anderson projects. The soundtrack was very interesting, as most of it were foreign language interpretations of David Bowie songs. One of the few non-Bowie tracks was one of my favorite Sigur Ros tracks, Staralfur from Agaetis Byrjun. Its kind of a spoiler to say when the track is used, but I must say it works perfectly. So now I've begun my quest to find/make a pair of the Team Zissou Adidas they are (to quote Napoleon Dynamite) "flippin sweet".

You know whats good? Take some raspberry sorbet and mix it with a bubbly beverage (my favorite is ginger ale). The resulting sugary slop tastes delicious. Now I imagine one could mix in alcohol too, although this is something I have yet to try and it might just make it awful. You know what lyric I really like right now? Its from that Chin up Chin up album I was talking about before. It goes "whiskey shot a hole in your heart, I kinda liked it better when we were sober." Another album that I like right now is called Twelve Rooms by Palaxy Tracks. Anyway, this has been a somewhat random post, sorry. It all makes sense in my mind though...tasty drink -> alcohol -> song lyric about sobriety -> another album. Thats generally how I think though, so if you ever see me laugh to myself, its probably because something that just happened made some chain of thoughts 4 or 5 long that reminded me of something I saw on tv or a movie. Later yall.

The other day I was looking through one of my old high school yearbooks, reading what people had written. Most were of the "keep in touch", "lets always be friends", "its your baby", etc. variety. However, one entry was of particular elegance, grace and noteworthinesshood. Simply put, the line before the signature consisted of nothing but "Suck it easy this summer". That day and every day forward I have tried to embody the spirt of sucking it easy. I do this not because that is what the author wanted me to do, but because I'd hate to be on my deathbed, reflecting on my life and realizing that not once did I ever suck it easy. I put this out to you. Take the time to think about the last time you sucked it easy. If that time was long ago, then I want you to drop what you're doing this instant, take a deep breath, step away from the computer and take a moment to suck it easy. You'll thank me.

Well, so I had my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. That was alot of fun. I hadn't ever been anesthetized before, and that was pretty wild. It was like one second I was just dead. A complete blackout for about an hour. Really really weird. Anything could have happened during that time. Which is I guess why they give you the extracted teeth afterwards, just to show you, hey, we did something in there while you were out. Although how long does it take to pull a couple teeth? They really could have just pulled those suckers in a minute or two and then spent the last 45 minutes photographing my dirty belows. Who knows. Anyway, I feel oddly attached to the extracted teeth. I'm fascinated by how disgusting and twisted they are, and the fact that they came out of my head. Brushing them now seems kind of too late, but it does give me some satisfaction to see them clean. I can't wait to get my appendix out so that I can play with that. They let you keep that too, right?

So the other day, I did something that will likely cause me to never eat another cheeseburger in my life. I was going to write it up, but Kristin already did. So that saves me that trouble. Enjoy the story here.

Ever seen Battle Royale? Its a pretty interesting movie about Japanese schoolchildren sent to an island to kill each other over the course of 3 days. I watched it for the 2nd time last night with my roommate. It makes you think quite a bit about the nature of competition and how far you would go to stay alive. Anyway, if you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out...

Just got back from the DJ Quik show at the house of blues in hollywood. Got back slightly later than planned because I ended up stopping at a rest stop outside of oceanside and taking a nap, since my ratio of driving in between the lanes and driving on the lanes was getting dangerously low. After about 20 minutes I woke up in a panic, thinking that I was still driving and about to hit something. Nothing like a little bout of the night terrors to perk you right up. Made it home the rest of the way uneventfully.
As for the show, it was pretty good. Minh, Jill and I were about 30 feet back on the right center of the stage. They had the big Fosters cans of beer, which reminded me of college, which was amusing. The concert was billed as "DJ Quik with special guest Wyclef Jean", so I was excited to see DJ Quik, but I thought Wyclef would be a cool opener to see. First on stage was some clown named "P Dub" dropping the R&B flavor. Not exactly a crowd pleaser, although he did take his shirt off, which made the crowd slightly more interested. Then a boat load of fools came on stage, none of which I really knew or cared for. Towards the end of their set though, they said that they heard a "booya" in the backstage area. In my head, I thought "Boo-yaa Tribe"? Then quickly dismissed the idea. What were the odds of having my favorite samoan rappers on stage? Turns out pretty good. They all came out and started with some new songs. I hadn't heard anything from them since around 95 when Occupation Hazardous came out. I always liked the track "RID is coming". Anyway, so that was fun. Then Shawn Anthony came out who I thought was pretty good but the crowd wasn't having it. They wanted Quik. Then the curtains closed and we assumed we were ready for the man to take the stage. And so we waited, and waited, and waited and waited. (All the time thinking, wheres Wyclef? Must've been replaced by booyaa tribe) Finally, at 11, Quik took the stage and the crowd went bananas. Quik ran around, shot champagne all over and kept perfect flow the whole time. Wyclef came out on stage and they sang a couple tracks together, which was cool. At the end of one of the tracks, someone ran out from the side of the stage and straight bottled dj quik. Who was the assailant? Why none other than Ching-a-ling. He did a track or two then quik retook the stage. Long story short, there was a champagne shortage and quik refused to come on stage until that was rectified, and the HOB has a midnight curfew, so the set was incredibly short. The best part by far was seeing all the B-walking and Wyclef doing a somersault followed by a handstand. Good show, although I wish the performances for the headliners could have been longer. Good night everybody...

I don't know why, but I just laughed really hard at this Washington Post headline (for those of you that don't have an account, its about the extramarital affairs of Britain's security czar...the headline is "Once again, London Britches Falling Down"). It combines clever wordplay and underwear dropping, two of my most favorite things.
When I was in Fresno for Thanksgiving, I went out with my high school friends quite a bit. One of the days, we went to IHOP after a long night of drinking, which ended at 9am. (Around 7am the mimosas started coming out...honestly...thats classy). Anyway, at IHOP, I was starved (and I just saw the check on my desk, so it reminded me of this story). When the waitress came I said...gimme an omlette, 6 eggs, every topping, plus throw some hashbrowns in that. She laughed...I didn't. She then asked if I was serious and I just gave her the look. She knew what was up. I saw her and her waitress friends holding some sort of meeting in the back corner about how to handle the situation. I thought it might take a couple to carry it, but one of the bigger ones managed it on her own. She brought it out to me, carrying it like it was a baby or something. It was about the size of an NFL football, and man was it good. I managed to polish off the whole thing, but the last few bites were pretty nasty. My order took up about 90% of the bill:
BYO Omlette 6.79 2 extra eggs 2.38 1 extra egg 1.19 Add Avacado 0.89 Add Bacon 0.89 Add Salsa 0.89 Add Extra Cheese 0.89 Add Hashbrowns 0.89 Add Ham 0.89 Add Green Pepper 0.89 Add Jalepenos 0.89 Add Mushrooms 0.89 Add Black Olives 0.89 Add Onion 0.89 Add Sausage 0.89 Add Sour Cream 0.89 Add Tomato 0.89 Add Turkey 0.89 Add Guacamole 0.89
All for the bargain price of $24.60. The cost was well worth it, for the memories. Ah, the memories....

You know what songs I'd really like to hear right now? "Anytime" by Brian McKnight or "Feenin'" by Jodeci. Man those are good songs. I'm so lazy though, I don't think I'll get up to actually pick them out of my cd holders. At work I've still been listening to Summer in Abaddon for the last couple weeks on continuous repeat. I think I'm about ready to change it up though, as I'm starting to become really attached to the cd We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers by Chinup Chinup. Pretty darn catchy after a few listens, although I can't help but feel like the beginning to "Why is my sleeping bag a ghetto muppet?" is a ripoff of Clocks by Coldplay. Have a good day...
