Got back around 1am last night from the Souls 2005 benefit concert put on by System of a Down. The concert was put on to raise awareness about the "Forgotten" Genocide of the Armenian people in the country of Turkey in 1915-1923. Despite the fact that 1.5 million Armenians were killed, governments around the world refuse to recognize it as genocide. I managed to get pit tickets for the show, which was pretty darn good. I had seen System before in 1999 or 2000 at a filming of the now long gone farmclub.com tv show and they were awesome; the show last night surpassed even that. It was tiring for sure, although a little more tame than I expected. We managed to stay out of the moshing part of the pit and get stuck in the bermuda triangle of girls and weed smokers, so I was only pushed around mildly, which was ok by me. The highlight of the show was...well, pretty much everything. All the songs were performed high energy and back to back to back in a tight hour and 45 minute set. The only disappointment was that there were no tv shirts with lyrics from the new track "Cigaro"... (My cock is much bigger than yours!) Anyway, thanks System...now off to my first day back at work, that was a stupid scheduling error.

Got back from relaxing in Oakland/Fresno last night. I didn't really do much per se, but mostly hung out various places. I can't really think of a story to link these pictures together, so I'll just put them up.
Some people probably shouldn't be around animals If you build it he will come. There are tons of chicks in Fresno. Sheep are scary at night. Some got it, some don't. Some just look good doing it. I warned her first that this was going to be on smellypiratehooker.com Things can change so quickly. After having this for breakfast, I wound up sleeping next to this on the streets of Oakland.
Anyway, hope you had a good week.

So I flew into Oakland this morning and then got a rental car to drive to Fresno (Ford Focus of course, I love it!) so that I can spend a little bit of time with my family before I go do God knows what in the bay area. I'll try to have some pictures of the baby sheeplets that are running around here in the next few days. Pretty cute. Driving to Fresno from the bay was a drive I never made (with me behind the wheel) before, and I must say it was pretty easy. California really is a beautiful state, and I found myself swerving to stay on the road as I became mesmerized by the way the gusts of wind made the fields of tall grass shimmer. Don't get me wrong, the ocean is pretty great, but I think I'll always have a tender place in my heart for country livin'.
Of course, no time in the car should be without a soundtrack. My first selection was the album "Anniemal" by Annie. Despite the exceedingly dumb title, the album is pretty awesome. Its Scandinavian dance pop ala Kylie Minogue with a kind of Gap Band discoish flavor to it. At first listen I almost guaranteed you'll think its terrible, at second listen you'll be hooked. The only problem is that its only available as an import (29 bucks on amazon...I picked it up for 24 at tower records). Check out "Chewing Gum" and "Heartbeat". The only other cd needed for the trip was my old standby, Pinback's self titled album. I am fully ready to declare this the one album I would take with me if I were stranded on a desert island. I've consistently listened to this for 3 years now, and I still enjoy it immensley. If cds ever get laser burn, I really need to go get a second copy of this soon. Every track is brilliant, but in true pinback fashion, the first and last songs stand out as exceptional.
ps sorry to all whose emails I've been neglecting...its nothing personal, I've just been so busy with my travel...I'll get back to you next week, I promi...I'll try :P

This is probably old news to some of you, but for the rest of you, these are my confessions.
1. My favorite show in the world is Kenan and Kel, a show for young teens on Nickelodeon. I started watching it when I was twenty years old. I enjoy much of the Teen Nick lineup, and of the currently airing shows, Zoey 101 (starring Britney Spear's sister) is my favorite.
2. I still play the same game I played in high school, Magic: The Gathering. An actual fraction of my yearly salary goes toward it.
3. I am a software engineer by trade, and I enjoy it very much. Despite that, I believe that 99% of all technology actually degrades the quality of life for the human race.
4. I lie...constantly. Whenever I open my mouth theres a good chance a fib will come out. However, I believe that most of my lies are so ridiculous in nature, that they cannot be mistaken for truth. I am sure now I will receive a plethora of comments related to how much of a liar I truly am.
5. I hate saving seats, accepting saved seats, holding place in line or letting people into lines. Its just not fair. I realize that life isn't fair, but I try my best to make sure I'm not contributing to the unfairness.
6. I collect Beanie Babies. Well, just one; Claude the Crab. I probably have between 30 and 40 of them in shoe boxes stuffed around my room.
7. I would one day like to take singing lessons, although I am fairly sure it would be a lost cause.
8. I cry at the movies...alot. Chances are if its a non-action movie, I found some reason to tear up, and chances are that if it's an action movie I fell asleep.
9. I have participated in the last 100 consecutive California Lottery draws. Biggest win: 12 dollars. If I won the lottery I would probably spent most of it on stupid things within the first 48 hours, six months later feel bad about it, and sell all of it.
10. I truly believe that my big toe is of normal size. This is a heated point of argument with anyone else who has seen it.
Well, it felt good to get those out in the open. Have a great day.

Well, I was an hour late for an appointment today because I failed to remember that the clocks had changed...oh well. Hopefully you had better luck with that than I did. Last night I was pretty darn bored so I decided to go change my change in at the local Coinstar. Unfortunately, the first one I went to was broken, so I had to drive around much longer than planned to find a working one. I really don't mind paying the 9% fee to have my change counted for me. It would have taken forever to do it myself. After the 9% fee, I walked out of Vons with a juicy 118 dollars. What was I to do? I decided I should use the money to buy a 1GB iPod Shuffle, not because I particularly wanted one, but because I'm expecting a free one in the mail in a couple weeks (got all my referrals through refstop). I figured I could just buy one now, and then return the one that comes in the mail...I'll have to let you know if that brilliant little scheme actually works...I have a feeling something will go terribly wrong and I'll be stuck with an extra. So I got it home and within 15 minutes I had it up and running on Linux via gtkpod, without that bloated, controlling iTunes bringing me down. So I liked that. It took forever to load songs on it (about 15 minutes for ~800 megs) because I don't have USB 2.0 connections, which is fine. I can't imagine I'll ever really use this thing. I was always hesitant to get one because I figure I won't really use it. Even though I love music, I really don't want to have headphones on my whole life...I feel like I'd be missing out. The size is also kind of annoying too. Its about the size of a stick of gum, but you have to attach it to headphones, so you have this small dangly thing at the end of a long cord attached to your ears. I would prefer the player were just made part of a pair of standard headphones, not only because I don't like bud earphones, but just so there wasn't the annoying cord. I might have to hack a solution together. Anyway, enough of my complaining...hope you're having a good weekend.
