not much crackin'
Nothing new to report. I really must stop sending out links to sites like this to coworkers, as it will only end in a lawsuit. Anyway, hope your day was more eventful than mine.

Song of the moment: American Analog Set, "Punk as Fuck". Probably the most incorrect title of any song, ever. Its actually probably one of the most relaxing songs out there about living, loving and dying in the comfort of your own home. Gotta love that.

the american office
It was bound to happen...and American version of the originally British tv show The Office. I had the good fortune to see the original pilot episode that was filmed and let me tell you...it sucked...hard. The jokes were delivered poorly and all of the uncomfortable pauses that made the original so simultaneously painful and hilarious were gone. So I didn't have much hope for the series at all. After watching the first episode on NBC, I don't know...they may have redeemed themselves. Of course, it still isn't as good as the original, but I have a little hope. The uncomfortableness was reintroduced, some of the actors recast and it feels a lot more in the spirit of the original. It also sounds like the storyline will not exactly mimic the British plotline, so that helps avoid the constant direct comparison between the two. So I'm not yet hooked, but they at least managed to keep me until episode two.

Listening to lately: Lullatone, Little Songs about Raindrops. A little album that makes me want to go to sleep. Imagine 5 or 6 toy music boxes playing at the same time, each complementing each other. Very simple and complex at the same time. Check it out, particularly "Morning Coffee" if you get the chance.

zach braff no longer rocks my jock
So I watched punk'd this morning, and they had Zach Braff on there. Highlights? Probably when Zach told a 10 year old kid "I saw you do it you little f-er" and "Keep that kid away from me or I will punch him in the f-n face". Delicious. It drives me nuts that he was recently a guest of honor at a Big Brothers, Big Sisters banquet for his outstanding achievements, not really because in his spare time he threatens small children, but because why does he need an award? He's a famous actor that went on to write and direct a famous movie and got a Grammy for releasing a mixtape of songs that were all 3 years old or so. (I'm not bitter about that one) What about awarding the kids that manage to do their homework while their parents are out working at night or the guy that is able to stay motivated despite having no reason to be? I think we far too often award excellence to the people that don't need it, and allow those that are mediocre accept mediocrity and lose motivation. Although I suppose it works out well, because then we have a nice little class system to do the jobs we don't want to do. Sheesh, that got a little political there at the end, sorry about that....have a good day (and sorry Zach, not picking on you, its the system!)

tastes like a rhinoceros' butt
Well, thats what Steve said after we tasted durian for the first time today. I have to say, that is a pretty rank smelling fruit. It did kind of grow on me after awhile though. Chau blended it into a smoothie with some sugar and lemon, and it actually wasn't too bad after that. Would I do it again? Probably not on purpose, although it was fun to try it. I had wanted to try some for awhile, but seeing it on 50 things to eat before you die upped the priority a bit. Anyone know where I can get some reindeer meat?

I can't believe 1990 is 15 years ago
So I started listening to the Billboard Top 100 songs of 1990 the other day. Its remarkable how music can take you back to the 6th grade. Sadly enough, I think out of the whole list, the ones I've been listening to the most are #50 - Michel'le - No more lies and #33 NKOTB - Step by Step. Now thats a catchy song. Anyway, so now I'm starting to feel really old, since 1990 is now 15 years away. Seems like only yesterday...

kids say funny things
Excerpt from a conversation I had today with a youngin'...

Me: So what kind of qualities are you going to look for in a wife?
Boy: (Thinks for awhile) Well, she would have to like to do chores, and have alot of money.
Me: Really? What about being nice and funny?
Boy: Oh yeah. She would have to be nice and funny too. For example, she should be able to burp and fart on command.
Me: (Laughing uncontrollably) Thats a heck of a woman.
Boy: (Concerned by my laughter) Are you going to start crying?

Anyway, maybe you had to be there, but it was hilarious. I also thought it was amusing how he wanted a job where he could watch tv all day while his wife cooked and cleaned. He would carry a briefcase so that his wife wouldn't know what his real job was. And what would he keep in the briefcase? "Donuts and a spoon". Hope you had something funny happen to you today.

u ain't fresh
Last weekend was so far away, but it was alot of fun. You cannot imagine how many wacky misadventures you can have with an old bbq sausage. I also got some pictures of my little pup, his name is Breakfast. Probably the funniest quote of the weekend:

Curtis to Chau: What are you, like 4'11''?
Chau to Curtis: (Kick to the shin) I'm 5'1''!
Curtis to Chau: Ow!! She kicks likes she's 5'3''!

This weekend, since Minh was in town, I listened to alot of Quik. I had forgot what a good album "Balance and Options" was, particularly "U Ain't Fresh". When the cat's meow drops in, you know you've got a hit track. What is it with baby animal noises that makes a track hot? (Also see Aaliyah's "Are you that somebody")...

old and busted
When I bought the Mates of State cd last week, there was a promotional quote on the obi-strip type thing that said:

"Mates of State create indie pop songs that ooze with a love that is, like music, fragile and imperfect but all the more powerful because of it."
-New York Times

That got me thinking. Am I most interested in imperfect things? I think I might be. I don't really like new houses, cause they seem so sterile and lack character. I don't usually go for super polished music or movies (unless its Toxic by Britney Spears...congrats on the Grammy :P) Maybe I'm tuned such that imperfect things seem more real and perfect. Take the Radiohead song, "Everything in its Right Place". For all intensive purposes, that song has nothing in its right place. Half the time it sounds like the cd is skipping, the lyrics are about sucking lemons and not understanding people when they talk...it really is a carefully crafted disaster. But yet I love it, and maybe thats why that quote above was so interesting to me; my love and the love for others is fragile and imperfect. Perhaps true love is really being able to appreciate the flaws in something ahead of its positive qualities. Anyway, cheers, peep yall later...

lousy smarch
I can't believe its already March. It seems like last year was ages ago. Anyway, have you ever had Daiquiri Ice at Baskin Robbins? Its a rum flavored ice sorbet cream thing deal. You wouldn't think it would be good, but gosh darnit, its quite refreshing. I think I'm going to go buy some and slather it on at the beach one of these days. Well, off to start the day...
