02/24/2005: "smellypiratehooker.com"

Sweet! I just got done linking this site up so it is now available by going to smellypiratehooker.com. Can you believe that was still available? How awesome is that.

A few days ago I was in a baseball card shop just looking around. Over the last year or so, I've really gotten interested in vintage cards, but I don't think I have enough interest (or money) to actually collect any of the sets. One of the neatest sets is probably 1976 Topps Basketball, just because of all the afroed players and the cards are postcard sized, instead of the normal card size. Modern card collecting is pretty lame for the most part, as all the current players don't really have the personality of the greats that played the game long ago. Also, with print runs being high and card protections being what they are, its really trivial to collect most of the modern sets. So what companies are starting to do is offer super high end packs of cards that include "relic" type cards...that is, cards with a piece of game worn jerseys, autographs, etc. Of course, these packs are pretty pricey. My first highend pack that I purchased was a pack of Topps Pristine, and I have to say, it was kind of a rush opening the pack just because you knew you'd get something cool, you just didn't know what. I ended up with a couple autographs and a piece of jersey. Retrospecively, its actually kind of a dumb purchase, cause I didn't actually want the cards...but it was pretty fun for 30 bucks. So in the shop I started looking at the packs and was going to open up a pack of 1989 Donruss (for a buck, that was my first box of baseball cards I ever opened) just for old times sakes, but then the damn Topps Tribute packs jumped out in front of me. Every pack includes nothing but hall of famers and I ended up with a Johnny Bench jersey card, which is pretty cool. But did I really want to spend 55 bucks on 5 cards? Probably not a great idea. Oh well, I can be quite the consumer whore when I want to be. Anyway, don't buy baseball cards, they're bad for your health.

I clicked on some of those to see more pictures but just ended up putting a $5 card in my cart. =( Anyway, those shorts are spicy!
