02/02/2005: "i'm going blind"

And not from the reason you're all thinking...I think its because I stare at a computer screen all day. I feel like my eyeballs are getting smaller every day. While some would think this is cute, I think I would prefer continuing to live in the world of the seeing.
So I spent a good portion of the evening making a "best of" They Might Be Giants album. I've been a pretty diehard TMBG fan since around 1990 and they were one of the first (and only) non-rap groups I listened to until around senior year in high school. I know many find them annoying, but I really enjoy their unusual lyrics and highly varied arrangements. It was extremely difficult to narrow it down to the 31 songs that made the final cut, and I was kind of suprised by what I picked. First off, I was surprised to find that I chose the most songs (6!?) from Mink Car, their 2001 album; I didn't realized I liked that one as much as I did. I was also suprised that only two songs made it from Factory Showroom, their 1996 album that I had long considered my favorite.

My top five They Might Be Giants songs (in no particular order):

Narrow Your Eyes from Apollo 18
Metal Detector from Factory Showroom
We Want A Rock from Flood
Bangs from Mink Car
They'll Need A Crane from Lincoln

Their latest album, The Spine is darn good too, and I actually ended up choosing 5 songs from it, but I think its still too new to pick a favorite from. Anyway, have a good one...

I know exactly what you mean...I'm going blind from staring at a computer all day long too! At least we can learn braille together or something, right?
As for TMBG...I had such a great time when we all went to see them at 4th & B!!! I wasn't that familar with them before that concert, but it was awesome! Thanks for expanding my music horizons :-). -Jayme
