01/25/2005: "back that thang up"
Not much new today, although I did have the displeasure of attending at least some work today. As soon as I started walking up the stairs in my officeplace, I noticed a powerfully pungent rotten egg smell. Naturally, I assumed I had fallen victim to one of my own "silent but violents", and decided to leave that nasty nugget for the person who had the terrible misfortune of coming up those stairs afterwards. Unfortunately, after reaching the top of the stairs, I found the scent had not only followed me, but intensified by at least two-fold. On one hand, I was somewhat proud of my acheivement, but on the other hand, quite worried about whatever medical affliction, neigh, curse that had befallen me. It was as if the ghost of Taco Bell past was trying to remind me of the horrible things I had done in bowel movements past. By the time I made it to my office, I was disgusted to find that it was as if an aurora borealis of putrid mayonaisse left in the sun had created a 10 foot forcefield of foulness around me. I sat down at my computer to find an email from our property manager explaining that the stench was the result of sewer gases coming from backed up plumbing, and an Italian plumber (not unlike Super Mario) would be quickly dispatched to the scene. With a sigh of relief, I realized that not only was the smell of death in the workplace not directly eminating from my body, but also that the property manager probably had no idea it was I who backed up all that plumbing.
Anyway, just got done listening to the new Beck album, Guero. It wasn't the final mix, but I really just couldn't get into it. I would say its most like Midnite Vultures, (ie largely electronic and dance beatish) but I definitely prefer the classic Odelay and the very beautiful, largely acoustic Sea Change.
