10/25/2004: "razorblade suitcase"
So after thinking about that pet shop boys album, I was trying to think back to when I first heard it. It took awhile, but I eventually remembered. It was when CD's were just taking off and stores were trying to get rid of cassettes (remember those?). Anyway, I picked up that album used for a quarter. Thats right 25 cents. I really only picked it up because I thought the cover was amusing. I ended up liking it and recently got it in CD form, but the thing that was funny was that when I got it home and opened up the cover, there was a razorblade tucked inside the liner notes. It was kinda neat to think that the tape would regularly have lines done off of it...
So do I really like lyrics to songs? I'm not sure, I think many times all I like is the way a particular line is said, or the sounds that are going on around the words. In the last few years, I think I actually know the lyrics to very few songs that I listen to repeatedly, although I can somehow sing along phonetically. Today I was listening to some old skool, Mr. Groove by One Way which has very few lyrics. But the sounds! You'll be hard pressed to show me a better sound than the "Ah ah" noise that follows the "Da daat daaa" around 0:59. Splendid...

whatup j cakes. thought i'd check in on moo party. i feel you about lyrics and going with the phonetics more than the words. i don't know if you heard kanye west's album, but his flow is only ok but his lyrics are tight! plus you can't beat DJ Q-U-I-K "bitch u scary... u 20 years old with 3 kids, 7 tattoos, ya bald but ya legs are hairy... " holla at me Jcakes!

I only heard the singles of the Kanye album, I'm going to check out the rest though on your suggestion. As for his lyrics...18 words, "I drink a boost for breakfast, an ensure for dizzurt, somebody order pancakes i'd just sip the sizzurp..." :P
